This page is a trap! There are no minimum stats here!
Often, people will ask, “How much regen should I have for heroics?” or “How much mana should I have before I start raiding?”
Really, there’s no need to have a published set of numbers to aim for, and there are two reasons for this.
Average gear level
Blizzard’s average gear level (found in your character pane) gives you an indication of the level of your gear. Once your gear level reaches 329, you are allowed to queue for random dungeons, and this is the indicator that your gear is “ready”, and therefore, your stats are ready. If you:
- have a gear level of 329
- are wearing all leather gear (so that you benefit from Leather Specialization)
- have the right stats (Intellect, Spirit and Haste as priority)
- have reforged appropriately
- have gemmed your gear appropriately
- have enchanted your gear with at least some basic enchants
..then you are fine to do heroics.
The same applies for raiding – if you’re wearing mostly heroic dungeon blues and points gear, with the appropriate tweaks, and you’re sitting around the 346 gear level mark, you’re good to go. Don’t worry too much about having a particular mana pool number, or regen, or spirit, etc (with the exception of knowing your haste levels and breakpoints, which is important).
Instinct and experience > numbers
What are the stats for doing heroics? I don’t really know, I never really look. I do things by “feel”. If I’m OOMing on fights and it’s causing me a lot of consternation, I bring a bit more spirit in (as well as looking at how I can improve my healing strategies to conserve mana). I don’t fret over my regen numbers in my stats and wonder if it’s too low or two high.
However, I did record my stats as I was jumping into heroics for the first time – so if you’re really desperate for some numbers to work around, here they are:
*Since getting a 5% haste buff in 5mans is pretty hit-and-miss, with a Haste level of 10.99 (1407 haste), I would often be falling short of my extra tick of Rejuv. But at these beginner levels of gear, regen is more an issue than reaching that point. Once you have a set of heroic dungeon gear, haste is much easier to get.
WoW Insider has an article on what people were achieving in raid instances at the start of Cataclysm, and the gear levels they were using, proving that you don’t need to be fully kitted out in BIS gear to get things done.
