Talent foundation

Here are the restoration tree talents that all PvE players should include by default:

Natural Shapeshifter 2/2
Naturalist 2/2
Heart of the Wild 3/3

Master Shapeshifter 1/1
Improved Rejuvenation 3/3

Revitalize 2/2
Empowered Touch 2/2
Malfurion’s Gift 2/2

Efflorescence 3/3
Wild Growth 1/1

Gift of the Earthmother 3/3
Swift Rejuvenation 1/1

Tree of Life 1/1

For more information on why some talents are virtually mandatory and why others are optional or undesirable, visit the Talents Explained page.

Now we can look at some suggested specs. These will depend on the content you choose to play, your assignment (if raiding) and your play style, to an extent.

General purpose/regen spec 8/2/31 (link)

This spec includes all of the basics, plus:

  • Moonglow & Furor for mana
  • Nature’s Swiftness for emergencies
  • Nature’s Cure for cleansing – extremely important for heroic dungeons!

Other filler talents:

Points have to be spent in Blessing of the Grove, Perserverance or Living Seed in order to progress to the tier 4 talents. How to choose:

  • Blessing of the Grove is quite weak, but if you’re not worried about survivability or tank healing, you can put points here.
  • Perserverance gives a bit more survivability, and is good for PvE, not just PvP.
  • Living Seed is good for tank healing but weak for raid healing

I have put 2 into Perserverance for a bit more survivability. This is handy if you are just starting out in heroic dungeons, and will serve you better than Blessing of the Grove, definitely. Living Seed is also good for heroics, but you’ll need to weigh up whether your success or failure tends to come down to your survivability vs a small amount of extra healing on the tank (mostly).

Nature’s Bounty 1/3: Nature’s Bounty is a highly personal choice – some people love it, some people hate it. If your style or assignment has you throwing lots of Regrowths and Nourishes, go for it. Otherwise, you may want to put your points somewhere else. I’ve put 1/3 here because I like to have a small boost to Regrowth crit, but don’t need to max it out.

/run t,p,a={3,22,32,43,52,61,73,92,101,121,132,142,153,161,171,193,201,211,1,13,32,53,2,22,}SetPreviewPrimaryTalentTree(t[1],GetActiveTalentGroup())for i=1,#t do a=t[i]if a<9 then p=a else AddPreviewTalentPoints(p,floor(a/10),a%10)end end

Tank focused 8/0/33 (link)

If you are usually assigned to the tank, you may wish to optimise your spec for tank healing. Note: the max throughput spec below includes more boosts to Rejuv/Swiftmend/Efflorescence, but you have to give up regen to do this. This spec is a more balanced option for tank healers.

  • 3/3 Moonglow for regen, but 0 in Furor – adjust this if you need more mana
  • 3/3 Living Seed for bonus healing on the tank
  • Nature’s Swiftness to weave in free/instant Healing Touches when Omen of Clarity procs – particularly good if you use Glyph of Healing Touch
  • 3/3 Nature’s Bounty so you have a high crit rate on your Regrowths, which you should also use on the tank, and this high crit rate will contribute to Living Seed value
  • 3/3 Efflorescence – not just a raid healing tool! If you cast Swiftmend on your tank, he/she will benefit from free Efflorescence ticks, which is great bonus healing. Plus you may splash heal the melee, too.

Max throughput spec 8/0/33 (link)

This spec is for players who don’t need mana/regen talents, and want to maximise their healing output.

  • 3/3 Genesis (balance) boosts your Rejuv but also your Efflorescence (via Swiftmend) which is now a big source of our healing in many PvE situations (if used well).
  • 2/2 Blessing of the Grove – BotG is still weak, but it will boost your Rejuv
  • 3/3 Living Seed & 2/3 Nature’s Bounty – you may want to swap this around if you get a lot of use out of Nourish – this is personal taste.
  • Nature’s Swiftness and Nature’s Cure have been removed to make way for other talents.

To copy this spec in game, copy this text and paste it into your chat window:

/run t,p,a={3,12,22,32,43,61,73,83,92,122,132,142,153,161,193,201,211,1,13,32,43,2,}SetPreviewPrimaryTalentTree(t[1],GetActiveTalentGroup())for i=1,#t do a=t[i]if a<9 then p=a else AddPreviewTalentPoints(p,floor(a/10),a%10)end end

Remember though, these are just a few example templates – they are not rigid instructions for what you have to do. It’s really important to understand the talents, and to understand your situation, your play style and how you spend your time, and decide whether particular talents are important to you – and then tweak as necessary. A talent that is rarely used by one person might be extremely valuable to another. See the Talents Explained section for more information.

As a general guide though, here’s a quick table showing the talents that you should consider for various roles or situations (outside the core talents). If you’re building a regen spec, include the regen talents listed. If a heroic raid encounter calls for more survivability, consider the survivability talents, and so on. Note: abilities sitting in the raid/tank columns are not ONLY for raid healing OR tank healing – but tend to help more with these roles.

Regen Raid healing Tank healing Survivability
Furor Swift Rejuvenation Living Seed Perseverance
Moonglow Gift of the Earthmother Nature’s Bounty Nature’s Ward
Revitalize Genesis Nature’s Swiftness
Malfurion’s Gift Blessing of the Grove
